Scrim Sunday, sog vs BOV

sog vs BOV: sog win 5 - 0 on Saws & Laws maps

With YwK unable to find enough players for the scheduled Saws & Laws scrim last Sunday, it seemed as if sog would have a lot of players waiting to play, but no one to fight. Some rapid searching around the DFX community found Brothers of Valor (BOV) about to scrim Covert Special Forces in their Saws & Laws match - would BOV be up to scrimming twice in one day with a friendly match with sog afterwards?. BOV beat csf 3 - 1, and arrived in the sog.land server with 10 players ready to scrim. sog also had 10 players available, setting the scene for the biggest scrim we have played to date.

Playing the Saws & Laws maps, the scrim started off with a 10 v 10 ctf on Saws City. Sticking to their plan, sog quicly took control of the key areas of the map and began to run in flags. BOV has problems getting away from their base and made little inmpact on the outstanding flags. sog restricted them to a single flag capture while running in all 12 of their own targets, winning the map 12 - 1 with 14 minutes left on the clock.

Map 2 was "Ring of Fire". With no cover on the run into the flag bay and 10 players on each side shooting into the area, both teams had to work hard to even get players close to the flag bays on this map. Not pretty, but very good fun to play. Netherlands Devious had another outstanding match as cover gunner, finishing with a K/D score of 64 - 11. For the flag runners, it was a war of attrition, with multiple deaths needed just to get one flag to the bay. sog's gunning had the upper hand over BOV and the team ground out the win 11 - 3 with just a few minutes left on the clock.

The third map was played as an 8 v 8. With it's tiny zone and unusual zone time clock, Saws TKOTH once again provided a different set of challenges for both teams. After the initial rush to the zone at the start of the map, sog came out on top and began to build a lead. BOV opted for the multi-heli airbourne assault on the zone. Although this brought rewards in the form of kills, the size of the zone and presence of sog members inside the buildings meant that there was only limited impact on the zone time accrued by sog. BOV tried hard to oust sog and cleared the zone on several occasions, only to be cleared themselves by sog before the sog clock dropped significantly. Eventually the map ended with sog holding a lead of nearly 10 minutes.

In our last 2 Saws and Laws tournament scrims, sog have won both matchs by the end of the third map. Maps 4 and 5 were therefore a first for sog, the first time we have actually played these two under matchplay conditions.

Saws Maze is a tiny map, with little in the way of room for tactics. Both teams attempted to blast the oppostion to bits with a rain of AT4s, with sog winning the battle and finishing the map 12 - 8 winners.

The final map, Saws Compound, was played as a 5 v 5, dropping to a 4 v 4 towards the end as players had to leave. Both teams zoomed back and forth in the buggies hoping not to be targeted by the oppostion AT4 rockets. sog played well as a team and kept BOV pushed back towards their spawn for most of the map, eventually winning 10 - 4 when the map ended.

Thanks to BOV for scrimming at such short notice and for bringing 10 players. A 10 v 10 scrim is a rarity in DFX, it would be great to repeat the occasion on some Nova stock maps some time.
